An Elegant Way to Die

Never thought I would one day post about “death”, but this mausoleum was too interesting of a concept not to write about.

Even though when I depart I could care less where it happens, I am sure the person taking care of arrangements would enjoy such a setting. It is somber and austere and befitting of the mood, unless those left behind are feeling more celebratory.

Dramatic Minimal

Entrance

Entrance to a house designed by A-Cero Studio near Madrid, Spain. I am not a big fan of concrete structures they tend to be cold and industrial, but this entrance is dramatic.

More from this house over at Dezeen.

Lets Pray

SJE1

SJE2 San Josemaria Escriva Church by Javier Sordo Madelano Bringas via Contemporist

I was taken by this church. Looking at the pictures I felt that I wanted to be there and pray. The architecture captures the light in such a beautiful “heavenly” way. It is devoid of ornament giving way to an uninterrupted spiritual experience.

Wouldn’t you want to pray there ? If it’s your thing that is !

A 100 Year Old Gets A Facelift

The beautiful blog, Material Girls, pointed me today in the direction of an article in the latest issue of Chicago Home & Garden. A century old house was made into a beautiful, elegant and modern home that is soothing and comfortable, I can only imagine what being inside would be like.

Concrete Made Soft ?

I could not stop looking at the seating Foster & Partners created for a bank lobby in Morocco.

The seat connects all the way to the dome above. So dramatic, so inventive and who would think that you can make concrete look so malleable.

Ugo Di Pace – Eternal Elegance

Yes I am in love with with this Brazilian architect/designer. His work is exactly this, HIS work, it looks like him and feels like him. His houses always feel like collectors’ homes who are confident about themselves and about what they own. His modern interiors were infused with antique furniture and textiles long before it was trendy to do so. A visit to his website is a must.

Rocky Modern

APRock

Loved this house on Waiheke Island New Zealand recently completed by Patterson Associates. The only thing I would have changed was just a bit less of the rocks in the interior spaces, especially after seeing the view in the last picture, it is too soft and dreamy, I would have liked to carry that feeling inside.
