A 100 Year Old Gets A Facelift

The beautiful blog, Material Girls, pointed me today in the direction of an article in the latest issue of Chicago Home & Garden. A century old house was made into a beautiful, elegant and modern home that is soothing and comfortable, I can only imagine what being inside would be like.

Ugo Di Pace – Eternal Elegance

Yes I am in love with with this Brazilian architect/designer. His work is exactly this, HIS work, it looks like him and feels like him. His houses always feel like collectors’ homes who are confident about themselves and about what they own. His modern interiors were infused with antique furniture and textiles long before it was trendy to do so. A visit to his website is a must.

Missing Winter Already?

No I am not, but this room in a project in Italy by Jeff Andrews has always made me feel very warm and cozy, and wanting snow outside. Plus I really like the treatment around the fireplace and this rocking chair.

Perfection ? A Post Revisited

394_1a_6g

On the 11th of March I posted a picture of this room and labeled the post “Bordering On Perfection”. Yesterday I saw the same room again on Nuevo Estilo and thought to myself, maybe I spoke too soon? There is something that went wrong on the other side, at least to me!

The Bees Revolt

Two gay bees decided to trick their “Queen” and introduce a bit of HOT PINK to the hive.

Is this what went wrong here? I cant even begin to think where exactly this whole thing went wrong. There is so much wrong you are left speechless, but I cannot get over the bee stripes on the columns. Thinking about it, the rug is not so bad either, or the angel creatures scrutinizing your food. Shall I go on?

Rocky Modern

APRock

Loved this house on Waiheke Island New Zealand recently completed by Patterson Associates. The only thing I would have changed was just a bit less of the rocks in the interior spaces, especially after seeing the view in the last picture, it is too soft and dreamy, I would have liked to carry that feeling inside.

The Art Of Arranging

By Barbara Thornburg
What distinguishes Walter Herrington's Pasadena home is not so much the 1950s architecture, which is quite lovely, nor the vista of the arroyo, though that's beautiful too. What sets the dwelling apart is his graphic treatment of walls and objects -- not surprising given that his business, the Tulino Design Group of Hollywood, is a design packager for the home products industry, with clients such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Lamps Plus and Nambé. Herrington, a graduate of the Chouinard Art Institute, surrounds himself with artful compositions, including the abstract design he painted on the master bedroom wall. The bed and wooden stool are by Christian Liaigre, the floor lamp is an Isamu Noguchi design, and the pottery is by Oly.

Bordering On Perfection

This man's taste is impeccable. He is Thomas Urquijo, do visit his website for a tour of beauty. I also have a thing for paintings of circles that are this abstract, they do something to me. Perhaps its the purity of form, or perhaps I remember all the writings of Joseph Cambell describing the importance of this shape in the history of mythology and of humans.

Very elegant and very.... Saladino. I like the fact that it looks like a country manor more than an apartment. More pictures (here)

Bursting Ceiling

Casa Fez by Álvaro Leite Siza Vieira, source: The Cool Hunter

Architect Álvaro Leite Siza Vieira created this beautiful ceiling in his home. Saw this on Nicky Haslam's blog in a post about "bursting" designs. You have to visit Siza's website, love his work, in this particular house love the mixture of old timbre with modern interiors.
